Disneyland Park
Disneyland in Anaheim, California, is the first theme park ever opened by the Walt Disney Company and the only one Walt Disney himself oversaw from design to opening day, July 17, 1955. It wraps streets, a castle, steamboats, and themed lands into a self-contained world screened from the outside by a berm of earth, with a central hub radiating outward to each land and landmarks guiding the eye — a layout that fundamentally changed the theme-park industry. The park has welcomed more cumulative visitors than any other on earth. Walk in, follow Main Street U.S.A. toward the castle, and you'll find that every ship, every statue, and every magnifying glass conceals a story that millions of feet have walked past without stopping to notice.

Columbia Sailing Ship
Moored on the Rivers of America, this three-masted tall ship is a full-scale replica of the Columbia Rediviva — the first American vessel to circumnavigate the globe. She has been sailing the park for more than fifty years, carrying guests around the river in about twelve minutes; after dark she transforms into Captain Hook's pirate ship for the Fantasmic! nighttime spectacular. Before you board, look up at the three masts: tradition holds that a silver dollar lies beneath the base of each one.

Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant
Tomorrowland Terrace is a counter-service restaurant selling classic American fare — burgers, hot dogs, fries — through side-by-side order and pickup windows set beneath two arched alcoves. The real draw isn't on the plate: it's the outdoor stage and terrazzo floor that fill with tables and chairs by day and clear into a dance floor at night. Look carefully at the stage — only the roof is visible above grade, and what lies underneath is more interesting than it appears.

Golden Horseshoe Saloon
The Golden Horseshoe Saloon sits in Frontierland facing the Rivers of America and New Orleans Square, a Western-style restaurant and entertainment venue that opened with the park on opening day. One of its early shows holds a Guinness World Record: the Golden Horseshoe Revue ran for roughly 39,000 performances — among the most of any stage musical in the world. That record makes it one of the most distinctive venues among Disneyland's original opening-day attractions.

Mickey's House and Meet Mickey
Mickey's House and Meet Mickey, in Mickey's Toontown, is a walk-through attraction combined with a character meet-and-greet with Mickey Mouse. The Disneyland version opened with Toontown in 1993. Guests walk through Mickey's home, past props and costumes from his film career in the Movie Barn, and end in the meet-and-greet area. Its predecessor was a similar attraction called Mickey's Birthdayland, which opened at Magic Kingdom in 1988, making the concept of walking through a cartoon character's home a Disney tradition long before Toontown existed.

Main Street Opera House
This 14,000-square-foot brick building at the corner of Town Square is the oldest structure in Disneyland. When it opened in 1955, there was no show inside — it was a working lumber mill, sawing 3.5 million board-feet of timber into the structural components for the buildings around it, with craftsmen here producing even the plaster ornamentation on Sleeping Beauty Castle. The original plan was to convert it into a television studio, but tight opening budgets left it dark until 1961, when it welcomed its first public exhibition. Walk in today and you'll sit in a 500-seat theater to watch an astonishingly lifelike Audio-Animatronic Abraham Lincoln rise and deliver a speech — technology that premiered at the 1964 New York World's Fair before moving here the following year to mark the park's tenth anniversary.
